Prevent Mastectomy Surgery Infection with These Tips

By Genae Girard

If you have had a breast cancer diagnosis, there are some things that you can do to risk your chances of infection. For example, before you go to the hospital scrub down with a broad spectrum surgical soap. While you are in the shower simply use it like you would normal bath soap. You can get this in a home health or hospital supply company. Pre-purchase your heal-in-comfort kit so that you have it to go home with at the hospital.  There is a cream that you can get a script for called Mupirocin topical ointment. You can put a dab of this in your nostrils which can keep you from inhaling airborne diseases like MRSA. Arrange for there to be someone in the room with you that can make sure the staff at the hospital facility dons gloves at all times. When managing your surgical drains, make sure that you keep triple anti-biotic cream around the point of entry of the drains into your skin. Try to limit your time in public places until you heal. Stay away from nail salons and gyms where the tendency for disease is high. Wash your hands frequently and with warm water. If anyone helps you with the drains, make sure they put on exam gloves.
