Discover the reason one woman refused to put up with the lack of
equipment hospitals provide during mastectomy surgery and created her own equipment.
My sister,
Let me start by saying that I am one of you and I know how difficult this time
is for you and your family. My name is Cherie Mathews from Austin Texas
and I am the creator of the Heal in Comfort post op equipment. I understand
the fear and the complicated decisions associated with this disease and
surgery. It is difficult to learn the medical lingo, hear everything the doctors
say and juggle all of the new information.
The new “job” of keeping up with medical appointments, decisions that have
to be made are enough to put you into a tailspin.
Am I close? Are you experiencing this right now?
If you have to make decisions about your mastectomy surgery, I have your
back. Don’t proceed to the hospital until you read this letter top to bottom. I
will help you get through this in a much better way than I did and in comfort
and dignity….deal?
THIS ISN’T FAIR, I DIDN’T DO
ANYTHING WRONG!
When I was diagnosed I felt like I could have caused this through diet stress
or even exposure to chemicals. I decided not to try and figure out “WHY”
and move through the treatment knowing that I wanted to survive and thrive.
1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed in their life time. This
means that you and I are not alone.
WHY YOU SHOULDN'T
SETTLE
After mastectomy surgery I had to juggle drains, and wear a man’s shirt
because it was “roomy”. Well that was very insulting to me not to have been
provided proper equipment to heal in after having my breasts removed. A
man would never be sent home in his wife’s skirt if he lost his man parts in
the battle against cancer. So why is it ok for women to be sent home in a
man’s dress shirt after the removal of her breast in the battle against breast
cancer . I committed to myself that I will change this for my future sisters. A
broken arm wouldn’t be given a shoe lace to use as equipment to heal in
anyways you get my point. I was outraged…and did something about it.
IMPROVING BREAST CANCER
PATIENT'S LIVES
I took it into my own hands and used my IBM research and development
experience to invent a better way. A way to help solve one piece of the
puzzle as women are going through the journey. To help change the lives of
breast cancer patients throughout the country. I created a kit specifically to
addresses the needs of mastectomy patients. No longer do you need to
“rig” shoelaces, a man’s shirt or bandanas to help you heal after a
mastectomy.
