Cherie's Bio

Cherie B. Mathews, former IBMer,
11 year breast cancer survivor,
inventor, AW magazine
entrepreneur of the year and policy
changer.  I have invented post
operative equipment for patients to
heal in comfort for up to 30 days.
NO MORE OLD MAN'S PJ's and
shoes laces.  Women's bodies
matter and they need proper,
helpful equipment to heal in after
surgery. The patent pending
healincomfort shirt is very soft, has
moisture management properties,
internal pockets and easy to use
velcro-like fasteners when
movement is difficult.

Cherie’s healincomfort shirt holds a
USA Trademark and has patent
pending status. In the past year she
and her business have been
recognized as Austin Women
Magazine's Entrepreneur of the
Year, Small Grant Award, and
Cambridge Who’s Who VIP for
business leadership. Healincomfort.
com recently received WBENC and
HUB status. Cherie has recently
formed a non profit named
healincomfort4change.org to reach
more cancers patients across the
United States and around the world.
She is an active member of Texas
Women in Business, the Women’s
Business Enterprise National
Council, General Federation of
Women’s Clubs and Executive
Women’s Golf Association.

Cherie started her career in the field
of computer engineering
specializing in research and
development for IBM in Burlington
Vermont. Her area of focus was
failure analysis which determined
chip reliability under stress testing
before the product went to market.
She determined final discoveries
and decision making authority to
release product to manufacturing.
After her career with IBM, Cherie
followed her passion of education
and taught Physical Education for
14 years while raising her two
children.

Cherie is one of the original
pioneers of The First Tee National
School Program which is based on
NASPE standards and which has
been instrumental in reaching over
2.4 million students in only 5 years.
She is currently one of the National
Trainers who introduce this program
across the United States.

In her spare time (hah!), Cherie
enjoys playing golf and riding her
Harley Davidson Road King. She
and her husband Adam(a 3x
Ironman) have two children, Ashley
and Adam, and live in South Austin.

Discover the reason one woman refused to put up with the lack of
equipment hospitals provide during mastectomy surgery and created her own equipment.

My sister,

Let me start by saying that I am one of you and I know how difficult this time
is for you and your family.  My name is Cherie Mathews from Austin Texas
and I am the creator of the Heal in Comfort post op equipment. I understand
the fear and the complicated decisions associated with this disease and
surgery.  It is difficult to learn the medical lingo, hear everything the doctors
say and juggle all of the new information.
The new “job” of keeping up with medical appointments, decisions that have
to be made are enough to put you into a tailspin.

Am I close? Are you experiencing this right now?

If you have to make decisions about your mastectomy surgery, I have your
back. Don’t proceed to the hospital until you read this letter top to bottom. I
will help you get through this in a much better way than I did and  in comfort
and dignity….deal?

            THIS ISN’T FAIR, I DIDN’T DO
                  ANYTHING WRONG!

When I was diagnosed I felt like I could have caused this through diet stress
or even exposure to chemicals. I decided not to try and figure out “WHY”
and move through the treatment knowing that I wanted to survive and thrive.
1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed in their life time.  This
means that you and I are not alone.

               WHY YOU SHOULDN'T
                         SETTLE

After mastectomy surgery I had to juggle drains, and wear  a man’s shirt
because it was “roomy”. Well that was very insulting to me not to have been
provided proper equipment to heal in after having my breasts removed.  A
man would never be sent home in his wife’s skirt if he lost his man parts in
the battle against cancer.  So why is it ok for women to be sent home in a
man’s dress shirt after the removal of her breast in the battle against breast
cancer . I committed to myself that I will change this for my future sisters. A
broken arm wouldn’t be given a shoe lace to use as equipment to heal in
anyways you get my point.   I was outraged…and did something about it.

          IMPROVING BREAST CANCER
                  PATIENT'S LIVES

I took it into my own hands and used my IBM research and development
experience to invent a better way. A way to help solve one piece of the
puzzle as women are going through the journey. To help change the lives of
breast cancer patients throughout the country.  I created a kit specifically to
addresses the needs of mastectomy patients. No longer do you need to
“rig” shoelaces, a man’s shirt or bandanas to help you heal after a
mastectomy.

          YOU CAN HEAL IN COMFORT
             AND DIGNITY, YOU CAN
              HAVE EQUIPMENT NOT
             PROVIDED BY HOSPITALS

But how? You will find all the answers in my new mastectomy post-op
healing kitSuper soft healincomfort shirt, comes in soft blue or pink. As a
result of heavy demand please be prepared to receive either color.
